Pizza galore.

At our home ed group today the children made pizza. It was so nice to see Laura joining in with the others. The pizzas all looked wonderful and everyone had a lovely time. It took ages to cook them all and no time at all for the children to devour them. A huge success.
Busy making pizza dough

time to put it in the oven

Simon's on holiday from work for 2 weeks so he decided to come to group to meet everyone and see what we do. I didn't think it would take him long to have a go on the big slide but I couldn't believe it when he managed to persuade Laura to go on it with him, she's usually so scared of slides.
Laura would only go on it with Simon at first.
A bit scary
........but she eventually did it on her own. WELL DONE LAURA!

A very sad end to a happy day.

One of Laura's guinea pigs has been ill for just over a week and on antibiotics. He had been improving but took a turn for the worse tonight and died in Laura's arms. R.I.P. little Dave. We'll miss you so much little man.

BUSY DAY

A scene from The Giants Necklace
Laura hasn't done much formal work over the summer holidays. It didn't really seem fair to make her work while her brother, James, didn't have to go to college. Having said that, Laura is always busy working only she doesn't realise it's work :) We decided today that it was time to get back into a routine (if there is such a thing when you're home edding). Laura began her morning by completing some of her maths work book (rounding decimals). She then read THE GIANT'S NECKLACE by Michael Morpurgo and drew a picture of a scene from the story on the computer using paint.

After lunch we read some of Laura's animal care course covering cells, blood, muscles, connective tissue, skeleton etc. Very interesting and a lot of it was new to me but Laura remembered most of it from science in school. I was very impressed.

An afternoon of baking followed. Laura decided to bake some cornish biscuits.

The finished biscuits.
Laura spent the rest of the afternoon in the garden hypnotising the rabbits. She has such a way with them that they are so relaxed they're almost comatose when they're in her arms. (Really useful last Monday when they had to go to the vet for their vaccinations).

NOT BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC

Laura in her "not back to school picnic" T- shirt

Laura and I wearing our T-shirts. (Both designed by Laura)

Sack races, games, balloons, bubbles, Karen's floppy balloon helicopters ( so funny) food and good company. A recipe for a perfect day.

Musical Bank Holiday

at least she enjoyed it for a while
Laura decided that she wanted Simon to record her singing today. She had practised over and over and finally decided she was ready so Simon set up his recording gear and off they went. Laura had partially recorded her song and wanted to listen to it. Her voice sounded lovely and in tune but unfortunately she didn't think so and became upset. I tried to convince her that it sounded good but she has lost a bit of confidence so we all agreed it would be a good idea to have a break and try again in a few days.
